Last week I had the pleasure of trying the Original ChopShop in Tempe. My co-worker had been there before and gave rave reviews, so I decided I needed to go to try it out for myself. I was not disappointed!
The Tempe location of the Original ChopShop is located on University Dr. near the ASU campus, which is a hop, skip and a jump away from my office on Mill Ave. Parking can be tricky, but there are spaces in the back. When I walked into the patio area I immediately loved the atmosphere. There is lots of outdoor seating in front of the bungalow style restaurant, and several tables inside as well. The vibe of the restaurant made me feel like I was in a beach town in California – very laid back with a charming personality. As I walked up to order, I took a look at the menu hanging on the wall behind the counter and got excited about the many delicious options. Everything looked so fresh and delicious! Behind the counter I noticed stores of fresh fruit and vegetables galore, and you can see all the yummy ingredients going into their dishes as they are being prepared.
Since I couldn’t decide on just one dish, my co-worker and I chose two to split: the Moroccan Turkey Sandwich and the Danish Chopped Salad. The turkey sandwich had avocado, roasted red pepper, cucumber, grapes, lettuce and yogurt sauce – a yummy combination of flavors! It was definitely big enough to share and came with a small side salad. I would order it again in a heartbeat! The Danish salad had almonds, shaved pears and apples, dried currants and dates. We both devoured it in minutes and savored every bite. Both dishes were incredibly tasty and had a fun twist to them with unexpected flavors.
Since I love having iced tea at lunch, I also ordered the green peach tea to try. Let me tell you, it was amazing. The peach flavor was so fresh I had to look and see if there was a peach at the bottom of the cup! I took another look at the menu and saw they have a nice variety of iced teas, pressed juices and protein shakes. After my wonderful lunch experience, I can’t wait to come back again to try one for myself. The Original ChopShop is a fun little find near Mill Avenue and a great addition to Tempe.
