I am absolutely addicted to home improvement. This is a result of the constant flow of ideas from HGTV programming, but also from my goal to have a place for everything in my house. I just moved to a new home and we’re still trying to figure out how to maximize the space and put everything somewhere logical, while making it a really pretty and inviting place to be.
This is where IKEA comes in. My husband and I re-designed a kitchen with IKEA products a few years ago and I was completely sold on how efficient their designs are. Everything was very easy to put together (really, it was!) and it looks great.
The new IKEA catalog was released this month and it has some really cool new products that have inspired me again. Their focus is helping families make the most out of their time together. A home that is more organized can take some stress out of everyday living. And, IKEA has focused on items that can incorporate the whole family into a space such as a rolling toy bin that can be tucked away when it isn’t needed, or used as a bench for extra seating. Their sofas and chairs have removable slip covers that can be washed or dry cleaned so there isn’t a worry about creating a mess when sharing snacks in the living room. And, the colors and patterns in their fabrics and duvet covers add a punch of creativity and even humor to any home.
When I went to a catalog preview at IKEA in Tempe recently, I was immediately thinking of how to incorporate some of the new items into our home. I’m also obsessed with their gray kitchen cabinets. Go to our local store to see them displayed in a kitchen set-up. But, I warn you –you just might become obsessed with them too.
I was impressed to hear how the team at IKEA thinks about their impact on the environment too. For instance, the boxes that one of their new couches comes in are flat, allowing more to be shipping at once to reduce their carbon footprint. They have a line of energy efficient light bulbs and products to help make sorting recyclables easier, even for the smallest of family members.
IKEA in Tempe is also an amazing place to make an ASU dorm room or campus apartment feel like home. There’s also an app available for iPhone and Androids that has really cool features like videos, image galleries and even augmented reality to help you envision furniture in your space before you buy it.
From college students to visitors to Tempe, I highly suggest coordinating your IKEA shopping trip with mealtime. The IKEA Restaurant and Café always has tasty dishes at a really great price.
Enjoy your next trip to IKEA. Look for me…I know I’ll be spending a lot of time there!
