There are so many great things that are associated with summer. BBQs, swimming pools and hot temperatures immediately come to mind. One of my favorite things about summer is heading out with some friends to just kick back, relax and grab a drink somewhere. It didn’t take me too long to realize that my favorite summer pastime is something I can do all year round here. The weather is supposed to be cooler the next week or two, so get on Facebook or start texting your friends. Here’s where you’ll most likely find my friends and I hanging out, laughing and having a grand ole time.
If we just want a drink, we usually head over to World of Beer on Mill Ave. As you probably know already, they have over 500 different beers from around the world, as well as over 50 on tap. They have live music and TV’s everywhere. It’s a really cool atmosphere. I love their Wells Banana Bread Beer. Seriously, I love it. It’s from England and tastes just like banana bread.
If we want to grab a drink, have a pretty chill atmosphere and maybe grab a little something to knosh, we’ll most likely head over to The Handlebar. Handlebar is awesome –and I’m not just saying that because I know a few people that work there. If you’ve ever been, you know they have a chill vibe. I love how they’re a bicycle and dog-friendly establishment. The staff is friendly too, which makes my time there that much more enjoyable. They have a great selection of 24 craft beers to choose from. They rotate their beer selection every season, which is nice because the flavors coincide with the time of year it is. Like I mentioned earlier, if we’re hungry, we’ll grab a little bite to eat here. First, let me say that if you love sweet potato fries, then order them here. Sweet potato fries are my favorite and these are some of the best I’ve ever had. Their brauts and Italian sausage sandwiches are really good too. Of course, Handlebar’s Belgian Pretzels are out of this world.
Finally, if we’re starving and want a big meal, we of course head straight over to Four Peaks Brewery. Really, I could probably just end it there because nothing really needs to be said. Am I right? You can’t mention beer in Arizona without immediately thinking of Four Peaks. Their Kilt Lifter is a favorite of almost everyone I know. And yes, I love it too. The same goes for the Hop Knot. Although, I have to say, my favorite beer of theirs is the Pumpkin Porter. But because this is a seasonal beer (coming again in late September) I usually just stick with the Kilt Lifter. If you’re hungry, you really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu but the 8th Street Ale Chicken Strips are really good and pretty popular.
