There are times when I’m in the mood for a casual place to eat, where I can wear my comfy jeans and get a good meal without any fuss. There are other times, though, when I want to get a bit gussied up and enjoy a nice meal out! For times like those, there are a few Tempe restaurants that are always at the top of my list:

House of Tricks – Nestled between two historic bungalows in downtown Tempe, the House of Tricks offers a dining ambiance that is like no other. You can sit outside in their beautiful patio area that feels like a secret garden, or inside of one of the quaint little houses. Even the plates are sweet – the kind you’d find at your grandmother’s house. The atmosphere doesn’t require me to dress “fancy” per say, but I do love to get a bit dolled up when I come here – and it’s mostly for the food! The dishes served at House of Tricks are wonderfully gourmet and full of amazing flavor. It’s the perfect spot for a romantic dinner or lovely dinner with girlfriends. My favorite entrees are the grilled Scottish salmon and the grilled filet mignon. And I’m always sure to ask what is on the menu for dessert that night – my sweet tooth is never disappointed!

Top of the Rock – The Top of the Rock, located at the Phoenix Marriott Tempe at The Buttes in Tempe, offers something that many others cannot – an unbeatable view of the valley. The patio area is the best spot to enjoy dinner during the fall and spring – watching the sunset over a nice meal – what could be better? The ambiance is very elegant, which is a great excuse to put on some mascara and a dress for an evening out. And not only does it offer a great view, but ultra tasty food too. The “Rock” burger and Roger’s farm chicken are two of my favorites here. Both are mouth watering good. This is also a great place to go after work for happy hour!

The Stockyards Steakhouse – Opened in 1947, this historic steakhouse is known for it’s corn-fed aged steaks and prime rib. Photos of historic downtown Phoenix and Old West charm found at The Stockyards makes the dining experience both unique and inviting, with an upscale twist. I make sure to come hungry to this restaurant and leave room for dessert too. The filet mignon and the prime rib are my go to dishes here, and include a choice of side dish as well as a soup or salad. Hearty flavors come through all the dishes making my taste buds very happy. The Stockyards also features their adjoining saloon – where there is a tasty menu offering “saloon snacks.”
