This is definitely a good week to chill out and laugh it up in Tempe. Both the Tempe Center for the Arts and the Tempe Improv will set the stage for some side-splitting fun. One of my favorite comics, Michael McDonald (not to be confused with the Doobie Brothers Michael McDonald) will be at the Tempe Improv, July 19-21. He’s most likely most remembered from his 10 year-long stint on MADtv where he created some of the funniest, most memorable sketch comedy characters like Stuart Larkin, Rusty Miller, Marvin Tikvah and Mofaz, the Depressed Persian Tow Truck Man. He was also known for his hilarious impressions of Al Gore, Bob Barker, John Kerry, Dr. Phil, Bill O’Reilly, Hugh Laurie (as Gregory House), Hugh Beaumont (as Ward Cleaver), Sarah Jessica Parker (as Carrie Bradshaw) and the list goes on and on.
After leaving MADtv McDonald worked on several TV shows and film. He was a writer, director and producer for several seasons of Cougar Town and has directed episodes of the hit series 2 Broke Girls, Scrubs, MADtv and 7th Heaven. Most recently he co-starred with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy in 20th Century Fox comedy The Heat. McDonald also continues to tour as a stand-up comedian, performing to sold-out audiences across the country.
There’s a whole lot of funny stuff going on this week. See the list below for more comedy shows and view a complete listing of Tempe events, or call 480-894-8158 for more information.
