Hey all you children of the 8os, do you remember that great song “In A Big Country” by the Scottish band, Big Country? Well, you can hear it live Tuesday, June 18 when Big Country performs at the Tempe Center for the Arts TCA.
Big Country is touring the U.S. this summer promoting The Journey, their first album in 14 years and Tempe is their only performance in Arizona. The band’s first album, The Crossing, sold more than 2 million copies in 1983. Since then, Big Country has toured Europe extensively. The band performed at Live Aid, was a favorite opening act in the UK for the Rolling Stones and for Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page and Robert Plant.
AmeriCamera will open for Big Country with a performance that weaves memorable stories with a blend of poetry and music. The group features internationally-known band leader Billy Cioffi and Dr. Terry Hummer, an accomplished musician and English professor at Arizona State University.
Billy Cioffi has worked with musicians including Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Tom Petty, George Harrison and The Smithereens. Hummer is the author of more than a dozen books of poetry and essays, including, “The Muse in the Machine: Essays on Poetry.” He also plays saxophone and other instruments.
