The Spartans and Horned Frogs are coming to Tempe!
We’re so excited that Michigan State and TCU were selected as the teams for the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl, December 29, 2012 at Sun Devil Stadium. The Tempe Tourism Office provides all of the information that Big Ten and Big 12 football fans need to plan their trip at www.tempefootball.com.
The Tempe Tourism Office’s Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl landing page includes ticket information, where to stay and things to do in Tempe, such as outdoor recreation options and a list of sports bars that are popular with football fans.
Tempe’s Mill Avenue District is a natural gathering place for fans in the days leading up to the game. There are more than 100 restaurants, taverns and shops located in the Mill Avenue District, just a few blocks from Sun Devil Stadium. The sunny restaurant patios usually become unofficial fan headquarters before the big game.
Buffalo Wild Wings is a new sponsor for this bowl game, formerly known as the Insight Bowl, and they are really getting behind this game. Patrons of their restaurants are very familiar with their excellent food and fun, sports-themed atmosphere and “table-gating,” their version of tailgating inside the comfort of their restaurants. Michigan State Spartan and TCU Horned Frog fans will be treated to an official Buffalo Wild Wings Tablegate. From 4:30-7:30 p.m. on December 29, this ultimate tailgating experience will include Jumbotrons showing team highlights, interactive games, cheerleading and marching band performances. The $25 ticket price to the Buffalo Wild Wings Tablegate includes a plated meal. This pre-game party will be held in lot 3, adjacent to Sun Devil Stadium. Tickets can be purchased at the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl website.
Many bowl game fans will want to extend their trip through New Year’s Day. On New Year’s Eve, Mill Avenue restaurants and nightclubs will offer entertainment and extended premises for the night. Radio Disney will host a stage for families from 6-9 p.m. on Seventh Street, west of Mill Avenue. Children’s activities and a variety of food trucks also will be in the area. At 10 p.m., the stage will transition to live music from a favorite local band. There will also be two fireworks shows, at 9 p.m. and midnight.
Tempe Marketplace, a shopping and dining destination, is home to a New Year’s Eve pub crawl from 8 p.m. to midnight. Patrons will enjoy an Arizona-style “snow” fall near the District Stage, a champagne toast at participating restaurants at midnight and a chance to win a $1000 gift card.
In December, Tempe also provides a respite from the chilly weather temperatures that TCU and Michigan State alumni and fans might experience at home. Sonoran Desert hiking trails are located throughout the city, including “A” Mountain, Papago Park and South Mountain Park and Preserve. Visitors also enjoy going kayaking or paddle boarding on Tempe Town Lake or exploring the beautiful landscape at Desert Botanical Garden. The Tempe Tourism Office website has even more ideas for fun in the sun.
No matter who wins the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl, all fans are guaranteed to have an amazing vacation in Tempe.
