Time to grab your walking shoes! Get fit for the approaching holidays while supporting an amazing organizations in the process by participating in a 5K walk! There are several fun 5K walks taking place in Tempe this fall. Check out this great list of 5K walks in Tempe taking place through November.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer – October 27 – Tempe Beach Park
Every Making Strides event is a powerful and inspiring opportunity to unite as a community to honor breast cancer survivors, raise awareness about what we can do to stay well from breast cancer, and raise money to help the American Cancer Society fight the disease with breast cancer research, information and services, and access to mammograms for women who need them. Registration opens at 7:00 a.m. and the walk begins at 8:00 a.m.
Walk Now For Autism Speaks – October 28 – Tempe Beach Park
Join the Autism Speaks and the Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (SARRC) by walking to change the future for all who struggle with autism. This fundraising effort not only generates vital funds for autism research but also raises awareness about the increasing prevalence of autism and the need for increased research funding to combat this complex disorder. There is a 5K route as well as a 1 mile family fun route. Registration opens at 8:00 a.m. and the walk begins at 9:30 a.m.
Walk to Cure Diabetes – November 3 – Tempe Beach Park
The JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes, celebrating Ron Santo, brings people together in a healthy activity for a worthy goal. The Walk is fun for families and provides hope, empowerment and a sense of community. Your participation shows your commitment to the large scale movement to conquer type 1 diabetes one step at a time. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. and the walk begins at 9:00 a.m.
Women’s Running Magazine 5K – November 3 – Tempe Beach Park
The Women’s Running Magazine 5K race, held on November 4, 2012, is the perfect race for mothers, daughters, sisters and girlfriends to get together for an unforgettable weekend in Tempe and support the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The 5K race starts and finishes in Tempe Beach Park. A fun bonus – all 5K participants will receive a 5K medal and commemorative race t-shirt. Register online before October 28. The race begins at 7:00 a.m.
Walk to Save Animals – November 10 – Tempe Beach Park
Founded in 1971, Arizona Animal Welfare League & SPCA was the first no-kill shelter in Arizona. For the past 17 years, they have hosted the Walk to Save Animals to give everyone an opportunity to step up and step out to help homeless animals. Grab your friends and family to help support this great cause. The race is held from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.
Thursday Adventure Fun Runs – Third Thursdays in October and November – Roadrunner Sports at Tempe Marketplace
Put some fun in your run! Thursday Adventure Runs are a great way to train for 5K, 10K and half marathon races. Participants run to fun checkpoints for free raffle tickets and try and accumulate as many tickets as possible in 60 minutes to win up to $1,000 in prizes and giveaways. After the fun run, runners and walkers enjoy après-party music, free Beer and more. You can pre-register by 3 pm online or sign up in person at Roadrunner Sports from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The race is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and the after party is from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
