There are many reasons to go to Tempe Marketplace…a movie at Harkins, dinner, shopping and people watching are just a few. But, I try to plan my Tempe Markeplace jaunts around the free live music performed every Friday and Saturday evening in The District.
This weekend is no exception. Friday night, Feb. 4, PWK performs on the District Stage near Dave & Buster’s from 7-10 p.m. Andrea Torzala will perform at the Barnes & Noble Fountain from 7-9 p.m.
On Saturday night, Feb. 5, Dry River Yacht Club performs on the District stage and Shelby James performs at the Barnes & Noble Fountain. Dry River Yacht Club is a Tempe band with a unique sound (bassoon and accordian, anyone?) and I’ve heard that their live shows are really great. Shelby James performs a blend of alternative rock and country influenced tunes regularly around town.
While you’re there, be sure to check out the exhibition at ASU’s Night Gallery, located near Barnes & Noble. The new exhibition, opening on Feb. 3, features art from ASU School of Art faculty. The Gallery is open from 6-9 pm, Tues. – Sat.
